Tips for Choosing Refrigerants

No matter what product we choose, there are some selection techniques, and refrigerants are no exception. So do you know what are the tips for choosing refrigerants?
Refrigerant is a working substance that continuously circulates in the refrigeration system and changes its state to achieve refrigeration. The refrigerant absorbs the heat of the cooling medium (water or air, etc.) in the evaporator and vaporizes, and transfers the heat to the surrounding air or water in the condenser to condense.
The choice of refrigerant is a relatively complex technical and economical issue, and many factors need to be considered. The selection should be based on the specific circumstances and the overall technical analysis.
1. Consider the requirements of environmental protection.
Use refrigerants that comply with national environmental protection regulations.
2. Consider the requirement of cooling temperature.
Depending on the refrigerant temperature and cooling conditions, high-temperature (low pressure), medium-temperature (medium pressure), and low-temperature (high pressure) refrigerants are selected. The standard evaporation temperature of the refrigerant usually selected is 10°C lower than the refrigeration temperature. The choice of refrigerant should also consider the cooling conditions of the refrigeration device, the use environment, etc. Automotive air conditioners can only use outside air as a cooling medium, and factors such as temperature, wind speed, solar radiation, and thermal radiation that affect them are frequently changing. Its operating conditions determine that it can only use high-temperature (low-pressure) refrigerants. In the past, R12 was used, and now R134a is mostly used.
3. Consider the nature of the refrigerant.
According to the thermal properties, physical properties and chemical properties of the refrigerant, those that are non-toxic, non-explosive, and non-combustible are selected. The selected refrigerant should have good heat transfer, low resistance, and good compatibility with the materials used in the refrigeration system.
4. Consider the type of compressor.
Different refrigeration compressors work differently. Volumetric compressors increase the pressure by reducing the volume of the refrigerant vapor and generally use refrigerants with a large cooling capacity per unit volume, such as R134a, R22, etc. There are many types of refrigerants. With the advancement of science and technology, new refrigerants continue to appear to be suitable for different refrigeration devices.
