Introduction of R455A Refrigerant

Refrigerant R455A is a HFO blend refrigerant with low global warming potential (GWP). R455A refrigerant can replace R22 and R404A refrigerant for low, medium and high temperature applications in new systems, and it can also replace R290 refrigerant.
Use of R455A refrigerant
R455A refrigerant is a good long term solution for low temperature applications in commercial refrigeration. It can be used in many areas of the HVACR industry. Examples include small charging, plug-in cabinets, condensing units and cells for cold rooms and freezers, Waterloo machines, chillers, heat pumps, low temperature side of cascaded systems and transport refrigeration.
Features and Advantages of R455A refrigerant
- GWP: 148
- High efficiency, high critical temperature, low critical pressure
- Very similar capacity to R404A
- Low discharge temperature, comparable to R404A/R507
- 30% lower mass flow compared to R404A/R507 for more compact systems
- Miscible with POE lubricants
- Non-toxic and mildly flammable (A2L)
The capacity matching of R455A and R404A is very close. It extends the operating range and is energy efficient compared to propane or air conditioning refrigerants.
