R600a-Best Refrigerant Gas To Take The Place Of R134a
- March 3, 2023
- Fonsum
Refrigerant gas R134a phases down in the refrigeration industry with the requirement of environmental protection, more and more people expect some refrigerant gas that can take the place of R134a
What is less environmental impact than it? What is cheaper than it? What can replace it? Can R600a refrigerant gas reach the targets? The article is going to answer the questions.
What is R600a refrigerant?
R600a refrigerant gas is a kind of refrigeration-grade isobutane. It is from natural gas and is one of the hydrocarbon refrigerants family, because of the lower boiling point(-11.7℃), it is used for household refrigerators and chillers.
What refrigerants can R600a refrigerant replace?
R600a was used to replace R12, refrigerant Gas CFC-R12 has been banned since 2010 in the world according to the Montreal Protocol and Kigali Amendment. The Countries agreed to add HFCs to the list of controlled substances and approved a timeline for their gradual reduction by 80-85 percent by the late 2040s. The first reductions by developed countries are expected in 2019. Developing countries will follow with a freeze of HFC consumption levels in 2024 and 2028 for some nations. HFC-R134a is one of the controlled substances; its consumption is decreasing year after year, so people have to find a replacement for HFC-R134a. R600a refrigerant as Hydrocarbon(HC) refrigerant can replace R134a refrigerant in domestic chillers and freezers.
Why can R600a refrigerant gas replace R134a refrigerant?
- Price: lower cost than R12 and R134a
- GWP(Global warming potential): lower GWP
on one hand, the R600a GWP is dramatically less than the R134a GWP, 11 compared with 1300 of R134a GWP, R600a refrigerant is more environmentally-friendly than the R134a refrigerant.
In addition, the cost of R600a is lower than that of R134a; because R600a is mainly from natural gas. The production process of R600a refrigerant gas is a lot easier than that of R134a refrigerant gas; thus, the final price of R600a refrigerant gas is lower than that of R134a refrigerant gas.
Is the R600a refrigerant gas safe?
R600a refrigerant gas is safe in the refrigeration industry when it is used under proper operation.R600a refrigerant is colorless, odorless, flammable, explosive, and non-toxic. Although R600a is flammable and explosive, the explosion depends on three conditions:
- R600a refrigerant gas leaked;
- The leaked R600a refrigerant gas volume reachesconcentration ofthe combustion or explosion(1.8%~8.4%);
- The Electric spark generated by electrical parts or the surface temperature of electrical parts reaches the iso-butane ignition point (460 ℃)
When the above factors arise simultaneously, it will cause combustion or explosion.
In addition, the amount of R600a refrigerant filled into each refrigerator is small, only about 50g.
In conclusion
R600a will be the dominant refrigerant gas in the refrigerant industry. It is a trend to replace HFC-R134a refrigerant gas.
